It seems as though the themes this year are weddings and departures. Several of my friends have walked down the isle and another two have decided to depart this fine city of Pittsburgh for warmer, but hemispherically different locations. With Tim in Ghana, it was time for yet another going away party last Friday. One of our good friends, Craig, decided it was time for him to head west to Sunnyvale, California. As a point of reference, he is the graphically decorated and sophistically stylish man on the right in the picture to your left. I sure hope that our Steel City evangelist, Sienna Miller, had nothing to do with his decision to join the "govinator" in California.
To bid him farewell, we decided to organize a small collection of souls at Elixir in the Southside. Despite having a road game in Michigan the next day, Craig showed no fear. The turnout was awesome, we had friends, family, and for the first 2.5 hours, total access to the upstairs lounge for a private party (thanks to Cramer for that one).
There were a number of surprises throughout the night, using a cliche reference to Lord of Rings, there was one surprise to rule them all. When we originally sent the evite, it must have hit the inboxes of over 100 people. Some responded, some didn't, but at least we had a feel for who would be showing up. Then, the crowd parted, the music softened, and then with cat-like grace Hank Fraley, our good college friend, swiftly swaggered across the dance floor, beer in hand.
RMU Crew – We may be a few years wiser, but it's all good.
Chickadees – Hey, even geeks need some attention once in a while.
Whud you say about Cleveland? – Relax Hank, I swear Pittsburgh will only beat the Browns by a few touchdowns come December, 7.
Umm, rock on – Not sure what's up with this lovely waitress, but whatever, as long as she keeps filling those red bull and vodkas.
Keepin in real – Some old school RMU alumni showing their enthusiasm for the camera.
Party organizers – Meet the guys who threw this whole shebang together.
As luck has it, not only did Cleveland have a bye last week, but Hank was in the area for Robert Morris' homecoming. Well, I guess I forgot one other important point here, at homecoming Hank was inducted into the Robert Morris Hall of Fame. Congratulations Hank!!!
It was really nice to see such a great turnout including surprise appearances from a number of folks that we hadn't seen in a quite some time. Fellow alumnus, unite!!! So to end this fine tale of yet another going away party, thanks to everyone who made it out that night.
Good luck Craiger!!! Keep in touch and let us know when we can make it out there for a vacation!
